How to prepare for a home energy audit

---All wood burning stoves or fireplaces must be completely extinguished prior to the home energy audit. A good rule of thumb is to let any fire burn out at least 24 hours before. We will make sure that all dampers are closed before operating our blower door.—

Additionally, the Tight House Energy Auditor would appreciate:

-         Copies of all utility bills over the last year. Gas or oil usage may need to be quantified based on delivery slips. Monthly electricity usage for the entire year is usually presented on each bill.  If you do not have these records on hand, please contact your utility companies.

-         Any records of home improvement work over the life of the home. If you have extensive records and an old home please make a list of improvements pertaining to major house changes, insulation upgrades, and heating system changes.

-         Any information about the home’s major appliances would be helpful including the heating appliances, refrigerator, washer/dryer, water heaters, etc.

The customer is very welcome to take part in the energy evaluation. You probably don’t want to crawl around in the attic with the auditor but may want to see the infrared scan.
